Specifically, each FX3 file contains two sections STARTUP and COMMANDS, and the content of those sections is unreadable ascii garbage (using Notepad or Wordpad to look at the file).

After reading a little on this issue it was suggested that I try "Borderless Window" mode and indeed this stopped the freezing BUT the background covers the DMD!
